A great parents day out – visit Orvelte which is an old Dutch village which has preserved it’s way of life from old times.  This includes it’s own cheese maker, sheap shearer, glass blower and other artisans.  There is a market in the weekends (we were there on a Sunday) and several nice cafe/restaurants.  Also…

Venice of the North – Giethoorn

Walk around the small paths around the village, or rent a boat for 15EUR an hour and motor yourself and your friends around.   This is a touristy Dutch destination without being too cringe.  Don’t come here expecting good food, you’ll find plenty of broodje kroket.  But you will find pretty decent apple pie… lekker.
